Extension of the Syrian People's Assembly Elections Period

The Supreme Judicial Committee for the Syrian People's Assembly elections announced the "extension of the election period for the fourth legislative term by two hours in all polling stations across Syria, ending at nine o'clock this evening." The committee added in a statement today: "Based on what the Supreme Judicial Committee observed during its visits to the polling stations in the Damascus and Rural Damascus governorates, and what it received from the sub-judicial committees in the provinces regarding the increase in citizen participation in the elections for the members of the People's Assembly as the deadline for the electoral process approaches, and to provide an opportunity for voters who were unable to cast their votes within the designated period, the Supreme Judicial Committee for the elections decided to extend the voting period by two hours in all polling stations in Syria, concluding at nine o'clock this evening." The polling stations opened their doors to welcome voters at seven o'clock this morning. Previously, the Supreme Judicial Committee for elections stated that "the number of candidates for the elections of the People's Assembly for the fourth legislative term reached 1,516 competitors for 250 seats in the People's Assembly, with 8,151 polling stations designated."
