According to the newspaper "Rai Al-Youm," Turkey has started secretly moving on the mediation file between Israel and Hamas and is trying to open a new channel of sponsorship for mediation between the two sides in order to activate the stalled files. This comes after Qatar hinted at its intention to withdraw its mediation from the truce file in Gaza and the stalled exchange deal between Hamas and Israel.
The report stated that Turkey has expressed its strong readiness in many forums to host indirect meetings between Israel and Hamas to discuss the obstacles preventing a truce agreement and an end to the war, in an attempt to find common ground. If Turkey receives approval from both Hamas and Israel for its mediation, it will propose a new initiative focusing primarily on a temporary ceasefire lasting at least two weeks, during which other aspects of the deal will be discussed.
The mediation channel being discussed would be directly supervised by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who will try to leverage his relationships to reach a consensus that would end the war by achieving a "compromise" between Hamas and Israel.
Turkey is expected to face numerous obstacles in this context, especially given the tension between Erdoğan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, Turkey has confirmed that progress could be made if it exerts more pressure and presents a vision acceptable to both sides.
During his visit to Turkey and meeting with Erdoğan, Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh will discuss the war in Gaza, and for the first time, the issue of mediation and the reactivation of indirect meetings will be discussed, particularly after the failure of Egypt and Qatar to make any progress in this regard over the past months. This sudden development follows Qatar’s announcement of a reevaluation of its mediation role due to Israeli and American criticism of its involvement.
