Qatar Energy is in discussions with the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation to supply new long-term liquefied natural gas supplies to help meet the rising demand for electricity generation in Kuwait. Four sources stated that the agreement would provide Kuwait with three million tons annually of seaborne fuel over 15 years from the North Field project, which is expected to start production in 2026. Kuwait is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and a major oil producer, and it is working to enhance its reliance on imported gas to meet energy demand, especially in the summer with the significant increase in energy consumption from air conditioning systems. However, it is also focusing on increasing gas production as part of its growth strategy for 2040.
