A low-pressure system centered between Turkey and the Black Sea, accompanied by cold air masses, is affecting Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean basin. This results in rainy weather, thunderstorms, active winds, and snowfall in the mountains. Its effects will continue until Thursday morning, gradually subsiding while the influence of cold air masses remains.
The white blanket covered the peaks of the mountains. In Akkar Governorate, the snow blanketed the mountain heights at 1200 meters and above, with a thickness of approximately 25 centimeters in the Qummoua area. Khaled Deeb, head of the snow removal center in the al-Qeitai area in upper Akkar, noted that Ministry of Public Works bulldozers have been working since 6 AM to clear the Fneidq-Qummoua road. He indicated that all mountain roads towards Baalbek-Hermel are closed due to snow accumulation, especially the Qummoua-Merjeyin-Hermel road and the Qummoua-Shanbouq-Qbayyat road.
Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamieh, tweeted, "The ministry's bulldozers are working tonight on the Daher al-Baydar road to clear the trucks that have slid and blocked the road. Their sliding poses a definite danger to vehicles. The ministry urges the relevant parties to prevent their passage under such weather conditions and calls on citizens to adhere to guidance and install tire chains."
As for the roads cut off due to snow accumulation, according to the Traffic Control Room, they are as follows:
- Treshish-Zahle
- Ainata-Al Arz
- Maasar al-Shouf-Kfarya
- Kfarzabian-Hadath Baalbek
- Alaqoura-Hadath Baalbek
- Hermel-Sir al-Dunniya
- Hermel-Al Yamouna
However, the Dahr al-Ahmar-Ainata and Dahr al-Ahmar-Al Yamouna roads are passable for four-wheel drive vehicles.
