Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi stirred reactions among social media activists after appearing in a black "jalabiya" (robe) upon his arrival at the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday for the Hajj pilgrimage. Sisi, while visiting the Prophet Muhammad's Mosque, wore a Moroccan jalabiya instead of an Egyptian one, despite Egypt being known for its traditional jalabiya. This led to questions and speculations about the origin of the garment he wore. Some activists commented on the color of the jalabiya he appeared in when arriving in Medina, according to photos published by the Saudi Press Agency. The agency reported that Sisi "visited the Noble Prophet's Mosque, where he prayed and had the honor of greeting the Prophet Muhammad - peace be upon him - and his companions, may Allah be pleased with them." The Egyptian presidency had stated in a statement that Sisi would arrive in Medina, pray at the Prophet's Mosque, visit the Prophet's grave, and then head to Mecca for the Hajj rituals. The Saudi state-run channel Al-Ikhbariya published a video of the Egyptian president's reception upon arrival at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport, where he was welcomed by Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the governor of Medina, and several other officials.
