U.S. President Joe Biden stated that he is not confident there will be a peaceful transfer of power if Republican Donald Trump loses in the presidential election scheduled for November 5. Biden said in an interview with CBS News, "If Trump loses, I am not confident at all," in response to a question about whether he believes there will be a peaceful transfer of power after the elections.
Biden added, "He means what he says. We do not take him seriously. He means it. All this talk about if we lose there will be bloodshed." Trump had previously warned at an event in March in Ohio of "bloodshed" if he did not win the election. At that time, Trump was discussing the need to protect the American auto industry from foreign competition. Trump later stated that he was referring to the auto industry when he made his comments.
Trump claimed that he won the 2020 election against Biden. He has faced criminal charges in Washington D.C. and Georgia for allegedly trying to illegally overturn the results. Biden withdrew last month from the campaign in which he was seeking a second term after being urged by fellow Democratic party members to step aside following a poor performance in a debate with Trump. As a result, Kamala Harris, Biden’s vice president, has become the Democratic party candidate in the race against Trump.
