Political Complexity... Berri Prepares for Legislative Session

While the entire world is still dealing with the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that struck vast areas in southern Turkey and northern Syria, resulting in significant damage to lives and property, the political situation in Lebanon remains complicated. In fact, the snowstorm has reflected a chill on the ongoing crises and challenges, which are stagnant with no immediate prospects for solutions. In this context, the initiative led by the Democratic Gathering to break the deadlock in the political crisis persists, continuing its meetings with various political forces. Yesterday, MP Taymour Jumblatt met with MP Michel Moawad at his home in Baabda, where they reaffirmed the necessity of holding presidential elections and the importance of coordination and mutual discussion regarding the upcoming phase to seek solutions to the crisis.

Amid the ongoing stagnation, member of the "Development and Liberation" bloc, MP Michel Moussa, indicated that there has been no new development regarding the presidential elections. In a statement to "Anbaa," he noted that communications among political factions have not ceased in this regard. However, no serious proposals have emerged so far that would lead to the end of the presidential vacancy, and he doubted that MPs would be called to elect a president in the near future.

Additionally, Speaker of the House Nabih Berri is seeking to hold a legislative session to approve urgent and necessary laws under the banner of "urgent legislation." In this regard, Moussa highlighted that the bureau of the parliament has been invited to convene to set the agenda for the anticipated parliamentary session, with the scheduling of the session solely at Speaker Berri's discretion.

Regarding the meetings that Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi is holding with Christian leaders and the possibility of inviting them for a meeting in Bkerke, Moussa expressed his belief that any dialogue in this context would yield positive results, hoping it would result in solutions to end the presidential vacancy. However, so far, there is a significant distance between the involved parties across various spectrums, and Patriarch al-Rahi is considering whether a dialogue among Christian forces might lead to any positive outcomes that could help in resolving the presidential issue.
