The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced today, Monday, the arrest of a Venezuelan national at Basra International Airport, who concealed cocaine within his body in a professional manner. A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), mentioned that "after exchanging accurate information with one of the Arab countries, the General Directorate for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in the Ministry of Interior was able to arrest a traveler holding Venezuelan nationality at Basra International Airport."
The statement added that "the foreign traveler placed the narcotic substance cocaine inside bags and inserted them into his body in a professional manner, then planned to extract them upon reaching his intended destination." It also noted that "the security apparatus in the Ministry of Interior successfully apprehended an international suspect who used a new method to conceal narcotic substances."
For his part, Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari expressed his gratitude to the "Border Ports Authority for their effective cooperation with the Ministry of Interior in monitoring drug trafficking." He affirmed that "the ministry will take the necessary legal actions against the foreign suspect in accordance with the laws."
