The organizing committee for the Paris Olympics canceled the swimming training today, Tuesday, which would have allowed athletes participating in the Olympics to familiarize themselves with the marathon swimming route in the Seine River. This decision was made due to concerns about water quality in the waterway in Paris. Anne Decamps, the spokesperson for the Paris 2024 Olympics, confirmed that the International Aquatics Federation decided to cancel the training.
This cancellation comes just a day after the mixed relay triathlon race took place in the river that runs through the center of the French capital. The section of the Seine River where the athletes swam is significantly shorter than the marathon swimming course, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday. The International Triathlon Union issued statements today, Tuesday, indicating that when athletes swam yesterday, levels of fecal coliform and enterococci bacteria were within acceptable limits.
