The two leading figures of the Democratic Party in the U.S. Congress informed reporters today, Tuesday, that they support Vice President Kamala Harris as their party’s nominee for the presidential election. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries ended days of speculation regarding their alignment with the growing number of Democrats backing Harris's bid for the party's nomination for the November 5 election. President Joe Biden abandoned his reelection campaign on Sunday amid concerns about his fitness to engage in what is expected to be a difficult race against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Harris told Schumer on Sunday that she "wants the chance to win the nomination on her own," as she stated in a press conference held outside the Democratic Party's campaign headquarters.
