The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Wednesday that the Hungarian capital, Budapest, will host the final match of the UEFA Champions League in 2026. It was also mentioned that the final of the 2027 edition could potentially be assigned to Milan if renovations to the San Siro Stadium are completed. The host venues for the next two editions have already been decided, with Borussia Dortmund facing Real Madrid in the final on June 1, 2024, at Wembley Stadium in London. Following this, Munich will host the final of the first edition of the new format of the prestigious continental tournament on May 31, 2025.
The UEFA Executive Committee, which met in Dublin just hours before the final of the UEFA Europa League between Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta, postponed its final decision regarding the 2027 edition until September 24, awaiting information from the Italian Football Federation on the plans for renovating the San Siro Stadium.
Additionally, UEFA awarded the honor of hosting the finals of the Europa League in 2026 and 2027 to Istanbul and Frankfurt, respectively, while Leipzig and Istanbul will host the finals of the Conference League. For women's competitions, Oslo will host the Champions League final in 2026, while the final for 2027 remains undecided. UEFA clarified that Germany will have already hosted the finals of European competitions in 2026 and 2027, and thus, the nomination of Stuttgart cannot be accepted.
