Today, a student taking the baccalaureate exams on its first day ended her life after being caught cheating by the invigilators in the city of Safi, Morocco. Following her expulsion and threats of imprisonment, the 20-year-old left the exam rooms and headed to the Safi Corniche, where she jumped from a rock into the sea and took her last breaths, according to Moroccan media reports.
A video surfaced showing the moments of recovering the body of the young woman who committed suicide after being caught cheating while taking her second-year baccalaureate exam, and she died from severe injuries.
The incident sparked outrage among social media users, many of whom held the families of the students responsible for putting pressure on their children, as well as the Moroccan Ministry of Education, which threatens students attempting to cheat in the baccalaureate exams with imprisonment, exclusion from exams for one to two years, and fines.
The second baccalaureate exams began this morning in educational institutions across Morocco, with security operations resulting in the apprehension of 66 individuals nationwide, involved in actions related to cheating in school exams and participation in such acts.
