The Executive Authority of the Union of Contracted Professors at the Lebanese University strongly condemned the verbal abuse, assault, and gunfire that Professor Hassan Machek, a mathematics instructor at the Faculty of Sciences, was subjected to. This incident led to severe injuries in his thigh and bruises on his shoulder and face, requiring him to undergo surgical operations the previous night, carried out by security personnel of "Société Générale" bank, who are described as an armed gang, led by the bank owner. The bank owner attempted to distort the truth and hold the victim responsible instead of handing over the armed gang, particularly the shooter who is an employee at the branch, to the security forces.
The authority viewed this crime as an attack on the Lebanese University, its professors, and its employees, suggesting that in addition to neglect and denial of its rights, the university was now facing the threat of having its professors killed, which would push the remaining ones to emigrate. They demanded that the judiciary and security agencies take swift action to stop the perpetrators, especially the gang leader, affirming that what happened would not be allowed to pass unnoticed, and they would do everything necessary to uphold the remaining dignity of university professors in this country.
