Closure of German Military Base Over Suspected Sabotage

German magazine "Der Spiegel" reported on Wednesday that a military base near Cologne Airport has been closed, advising thousands of soldiers stationed there not to drink tap water while investigating what might be a possible act of sabotage. The magazine's report indicated that the tap water may have become contaminated at the base, which houses 4,300 soldiers and 1,200 civilian staff, after an individual breached the facility adjacent to Cologne Airport. Military police and military intelligence are also looking into the matter. The base serves as a hub for a fleet of military aircraft used for the transportation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and ministers. There has been no contact yet with the Defense Ministry in Berlin or military intelligence for comment. The police in Cologne stated that they cannot comment on the matter at this time.
