The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: "As part of the daily monitoring conducted by the Internal Security Forces to curb thefts in various Lebanese areas and to arrest the involved parties, information was received regarding an unknown individual stealing car batteries in the Beirut and Mount Lebanon governorates. Immediately, the relevant units began their field and investigative measures to identify and apprehend him. As a result of intensive investigations and inquiries, the Information Branch identified him as M. A. (born in 1984, Syrian). On July 19, 2024, after careful surveillance, one of the branch's patrols managed to catch him in the act in downtown Beirut while he was stealing a battery from a parked car. Two batteries were seized in his possession. During the investigation, he admitted to committing more than 50 thefts of car batteries in various areas of Beirut and Mount Lebanon, including: Achrafieh, Bosta, the river, downtown Beirut, the Dora, Sin el-Fil, Mansourieh, Hazmieh, and Dbayeh. Legal proceedings were initiated against him, and he was placed, along with the seized items, under the jurisdiction of the relevant authority based on judicial instructions."
