Aboul Gheit: Israel's "Reckless" Policy Could Lead to Regional Explosion

Aboul Gheit: Israel's

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, warned of the dangers of Israeli escalation in the region and the possibility that it could lead to a "regional explosion," stressing that "Israel is pursuing a reckless policy without awareness of the consequences." A statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Arab League on Wednesday indicated that Aboul Gheit "warned of the grave consequences of Israeli escalation in the region." He believes that Israel "is pursuing a reckless policy without consideration of the dire consequences that could affect the region due to its actions."

He emphasized that assassinations "are actions that are outside international law, and their execution reveals a profound disregard for international conventions and an affront to the rules governing relations between states." According to the statement, Aboul Gheit noted that the international community "must exert the necessary pressures on Israel to prevent a comprehensive regional explosion resulting from the reckless policies pursued by its leaders." This follows announcements by Hamas and Iran on Wednesday morning about the assassination of the leader of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in an Israeli airstrike targeting his residence in Tehran after he attended the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president, Masoud Bezhkishan.
