Ashura Ceremonies in Karbala and Tehran

Today, Wednesday, large processions began in several countries around the world to commemorate the 10th of Muharram, "Ashura," the day when Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, was killed in the Battle of Karbala. Shia Muslims worldwide observe this remembrance throughout the first ten days of Muharram, with the 10th day commemorated through the recitation of the story of Hussein and large processions.

**Iraq**

In Iraq, this morning, the commemoration of the 10th of Muharram began at the Abbasid Shrine in Karbala, featuring the recitation of the story of Hussein.

**Iran**

In Iran, the capital Tehran and other cities including Qom, Shiraz, Talesh, and Ilam witnessed mourning processions in the streets and public squares, and gatherings in mosques and husainiyahs with the attendance of large crowds. The largest ceremony took place at the Golbendig intersection in the Grand Bazaar of Tehran, where the events of Karbala were reenacted with the participation of thousands of citizens. Additionally, in Lorestan province, the "Mud Wiping" ceremony was conducted as it is annually.

**Lebanon**

In Lebanon, large crowds gathered in the southern suburb of Beirut, where "Hezbollah" holds the central gathering, which concludes with a speech by the party's Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah. The commemoration began with the recitation of verses from the Quran and the recounting of the story of Hussein, followed by the processions on the 10th of Muharram. Attendees raised religious flags, as well as flags of "Hezbollah," and the flags of Lebanon and Palestine, alongside chants commemorating the occasion.
