"Bodies on the Beach" - Explosion Shakes Somali Capital (Video)

Thirty people were killed and 28 others injured in an attack targeting a popular beach in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, late Friday night. Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire stated: "An explosion occurred on a famous beach in the capital." Many young Somalis died in a heavy explosion that took place at Mogadishu's Liido beach. There are shocking and horrific scenes at Liido beach in Mogadishu. I have received very graphic images of the bodies of innocent civilians scattered on the ground.

Khaire added that the explosion occurred while beachgoers were swimming, resulting in casualties. He did not provide further details about the dead and injured or who was responsible for the blast. He noted that "the terrorist attack coincided with a night when the beach is most crowded, showing the terrorists' hostility towards the Somali people." The Liido beach in Mogadishu, which was once a refuge for peace and beauty, has turned into a site of pain for a treacherous tragedy, where pure blood has been shed and innocent lives taken. The images of shock and sorrow rekindle sadness in the hearts of Somalis once again. We ask God to protect our country and replace our sadness with joy and peace.
