Paris Olympics: Several Belgian Athletes Infected with COVID

Several Belgian athletes participating in the Olympic Games have recently tested positive for COVID-19, forcing them to delay their departure to Paris, according to Belgium's Olympic Committee doctor Johan Bellmans on Wednesday. Bellmans told the local newspaper "Het Laatste Nieuws," "We do not want to take risks. We have many athletes on the waiting list who have not been allowed in yet because they must first provide a negative test. At the moment, there is still room for maneuver," without disclosing their number or identity. He added that the participation of these athletes in the games is not jeopardized, indicating that new health measures have been implemented due to concerns over rising case numbers. He continued, "The goal is to avoid infecting any additional athletes because if new cases emerge now, the timing will be more difficult." He concluded, "All indicators are lit. There is a real fear of COVID-19 entering here (the Olympic village)."
