The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the caretaker government, Abdullah Bukhayb, confirmed that "the recent Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, along with the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh and recent developments in Baghdad, disregards U.S. President Joe Biden's initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza and represents additional obstacles to the diplomatic and peaceful path advocated by Lebanon, specifically the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and all relevant international resolutions in the region." Bukhayb pointed out that "the escalation of the war due to the recent Israeli attacks has become a serious matter, if the United States does not take urgent steps to stop the escalation, enforce a ceasefire, and revive the peace plan."
