Europol: Arrest of Suspect in Printing 11 Million Euros in Counterfeit Currency

The European police agency "Europol" announced today, Monday, that it "arrested a counterfeiter suspected of printing counterfeit banknotes worth 11 million euros ($12 million) in Naples, Italy, days ago." It explained that the man, who has not been named, had already sold counterfeit banknotes worth eight million euros across Europe. The agency stated that police seized around three million euros in counterfeit currency when they raided the location where the money was being printed in Naples. Additionally, Europol noted that the arrested counterfeiter is believed to be responsible for more than 27 percent of all counterfeit euro banknotes discovered and prevented from circulation in 2023 alone. Europol, based in The Hague, indicated that the French police participated in the operation to arrest the counterfeiter due to his extensive distribution of counterfeit notes in France.
