Israeli forces shelled Gaza City today, Monday, and convoys of tanks advanced into the center of the city from various directions, with residents reporting it as one of the most intense attacks since October 7. The civil defense in Gaza stated that dozens of Palestinians are believed to have been killed in eastern Gaza, but emergency teams have not yet been able to enter the neighborhoods due to ongoing attacks in Tal Al-Hawa, Sabra, Al-Daraj, Al-Rimal, and Al-Tuffah.
The Israeli army announced in a statement that it is conducting an operation targeting the infrastructure of militants in the Gaza Strip. Earlier, the civil defense reported that an Israeli strike on a school housing displaced Palestinians resulted in at least four deaths, marking the second such Israeli attack within two days. The Israeli army, which accuses Palestinian fighters of using schools and other civilian facilities for their operations, confirmed the strike "in the area where the school is located" in Gaza City.
This strike comes a day after the shelling of a school housing displaced persons, run by the United Nations in the Al-Nusairat camp, in an attack that the Gaza health ministry reported killed 16 people and was condemned by the United Nations. Israel stated that "this site was being used as a hideout and operational infrastructure from which attacks were launched against soldiers." Hamas denies the Israeli accusations that fighters are hiding in civilian facilities.
The war, which has entered its tenth month, has displaced most of the 2.4 million residents of the Gaza Strip, with many seeking refuge in UN-run schools in the besieged territory.
