A team of scientists from the University of Yaoundé in Cameroon has discovered that "cucumber extract positively influences joint treatment and improves their movement."
The journal "Current Rheumatology Reviews" indicates that "cucumber extract is now widely sold as a dietary supplement under the name 'Q-actin,' and this substance can modify ongoing processes in the body, potentially leading to improved health conditions."
To verify the effectiveness of this dietary supplement, the researchers conducted a six-month study involving 91 volunteers suffering from osteoarthritis, who were divided into three groups: the first group received a placebo, the second group received 20 mg of "Q-actin" daily, and the third group received 100 mg daily for six months.
The researchers evaluated the joint conditions of the participants at the beginning of the study, every month, and at the end of the study after six months.
They observed a decrease in pain among individuals in the second and third groups who took the cucumber extract "Q-actin," along with improvement in other indicators of joint functionality. For example, individuals in the second group who took 20 mg of the extract daily experienced a 32% improvement in the osteoarthritis index, while this index improved by only 5% in the first group. Meanwhile, individuals in the third group who took 100 mg of the extract daily showed a 39% improvement in the osteoarthritis index.
