Basil: To Those Who Tell Us to Adapt, We Say

The head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," Gebran Bassil, called during a public gathering in Jezzine to benefit from the dialogue and understanding among Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Iran to ensure a dignified, safe, and proper return for the Syrian displaced persons. He emphasized that they want a president who represents actual partnership in governance, one who is strong due to his personal strength and the support of the people and parliamentary blocs that represent them. He stated that if such a person is not available in terms of self-representation, he can be substituted by a supportive parliamentary legitimacy.

Bassil said, "From here, our responsibility is to agree on a person, and as Christians, we have a significant historical responsibility to unite so as not to justify to the inside or the outside the imposition of a president upon us; for as long as we do not agree on suitable candidates for our aspirations and as long as each one of us is unable to stand alone, our responsibility now is to agree among ourselves, away from all excuses, lies, and selfishness."

He affirmed that "Jezzine remains the stronghold of the Free Patriotic Movement, and the results of the last elections saddened us, and part of the responsibility lies with us. To anyone who thinks they are bigger than the movement, I say to them: 'Let’s see your size.'"
