British Prince William launched a five-year program on Monday to help the homeless in six locations. He stated, "The project, named 'Homewards,' will provide funding, expertise, and partnerships to help eliminate homelessness in six areas. I firmly believe that by working together, it is possible to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurrent, and I am very much looking forward to working with our locations to turn our ambitions into reality."
The project is supported by the Royal Foundation, a charity associated with Prince William and his wife Catherine. Each location will receive £500,000 ($636,000).
Prince William has long been an advocate for charities aimed at ending homelessness, following in the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Diana, who took him to visit a shelter when he was eleven.
According to estimates from charities, there are approximately 270,000 families in Britain without a home, meaning many individuals, including children, are either sleeping rough, in cars, or living in temporary accommodation. Charities warn that these numbers are expected to rise due to the ongoing cost of living crisis.
