The conflict in Sudan between the military and the Rapid Support Forces has prompted countries to hasten the evacuation of their diplomats and citizens. Several nations have evacuated their nationals by air, while others have traveled overland to Port Sudan on the Red Sea, approximately 800 kilometers from Khartoum.
Here is the status of evacuation efforts from Sudan by various countries:
**Egypt**
Cairo has evacuated a total of 6,399 Egyptians, including 1,072 who were airlifted on Friday. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that around 16,000 people crossed the border from Sudan to Egypt, including 14,000 Sudanese.
**Germany**
Germany has evacuated a total of 500 people from over 30 countries to safe areas as of last Tuesday morning, among them Belgian, British, Dutch, Jordanian, American, and German nationals. Berlin stated that its flights would cease on Tuesday.
**France**
The French government announced on Thursday that it evacuated 936 individuals from Sudan. The UN Secretary-General thanked France for its "crucial assistance" in transporting 400 UN staff members and their families out of Sudan. The French navy evacuated 350 people from Port Sudan to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday evening, while over 70 were transported by a French military transport aircraft from El Fasher, Sudan, to N'Djamena in Chad on Thursday.
**Italy**
Italian military aircraft that took off from Djibouti evacuated 83 Italians and 13 others, including children and the Italian ambassador. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani noted that some Italians working for NGOs and missionary campaigns chose to remain in Sudan, while 19 others were transported to Egypt two days prior.
**United Kingdom**
Britain reported that it began a "large-scale" evacuation operation for its citizens on Tuesday, prioritizing families with children, the elderly, and those with health issues. As of 1500 GMT on Thursday, 897 people had been evacuated from Sudan on eight British flights, with more flights anticipated. The government estimates that about 4,000 Britons are in Sudan. It evacuated its diplomats and their families last Saturday. Cyprus announced that it activated a humanitarian rescue mechanism at London's request to allow third countries to help receive and rehome foreign citizens evacuated from Sudan, hosting two major British military bases.
**Netherlands**
Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra stated that around 100 Dutch nationals have been evacuated from Sudan since Sunday. Half of them moved to Jordan on four Dutch evacuation flights that also transported around 70 people from 14 other countries. Amsterdam is attempting to evacuate around 150 Dutch nationals in total, bolstered by two military aircraft also available for other nationalities.
**United States**
U.S. forces evacuated American diplomats and some foreign diplomats last Saturday. Washington reported on Monday that several dozen Americans were traveling overland in a UN-led convoy to Port Sudan, with many others expressing a desire to leave. It stated that it could deploy naval equipment to assist in evacuations if necessary.
**Russia**
Russia has not yet announced any evacuations of its embassy members or citizens from Khartoum. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that Russians in Sudan have been in close contact with Moscow, stating, "Cooperation and consultations are ongoing around the clock, and various options are being explored. No decision has been made yet."
**Japan**
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced the evacuation of all Japanese citizens wishing to leave. He mentioned that 45 left on a Japanese military aircraft on Monday evening, and eight others departed with the assistance of France and other groups.
**Switzerland**
Switzerland has already closed its embassy and evacuated all its Swiss staff and their families.
**China**
China reported that most of its citizens have been safely evacuated to neighboring countries. The Ministry of Defense deployed naval vessels on Wednesday for evacuating citizens. The Foreign Ministry noted that approximately 800 people were transported by sea, while more than 300 traveled overland to neighboring countries from Tuesday to Thursday. The ministry stated that there have been no reports of casualties among Chinese nationals so far. The Chinese consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, issued a statement on Wednesday advising its citizens intending to leave Sudan for Saudi Arabia to enter via Jeddah Islamic Port.
**India**
Indian Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan reported that over 1,200 Indians evacuated from Sudan had arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, by Thursday and would soon be returned home.
**Canada**
Senior government officials stated that Canada carried out its first evacuation operation for its citizens from Sudan on Thursday, airlifting over 100 individuals, including Canadians and nationals of other countries, on two flights from war-torn Sudan. Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced on Wednesday that around 200 troops would be deployed to coordinate evacuation operations from Sudan. Approximately 180 Canadians had already been evacuated with the help of other countries. The government estimates that about 1,800 Canadians are in Sudan, nearly 700 of whom have requested assistance from the Foreign Ministry.
**Ukraine**
Kyiv reported that it successfully evacuated 87 of its citizens, mostly pilots and aircraft technicians, along with their families, among a total of 138 civilians, including nationals from Georgia and Peru.
**Kenya**
The Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that the government had evacuated 342 individuals who arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from Port Sudan.
**South Africa**
South Africa stated that it expects the last 12 of its citizens known to be in Sudan to have departed on Tuesday.
