Greece Dismantles Drug Trafficking Gang from Europe to Israel

Greek police announced on Wednesday that they "arrested, with the help of Israel, eight foreigners and dismantled a gang that used yachts to smuggle drugs from Europe to Israel." They reported that "the suspects, most of whom are from Israel and Ukraine, were arrested on Monday in central Greece and appeared before the public prosecutor on Wednesday." Authorities are continuing to search for more members of the gang. A police source, who requested anonymity, stated that "among the detainees is a 44-year-old Israeli whom the authorities believe is the leader of the gang." Police found evidence indicating that drugs coming from European countries, possibly from the Netherlands and Germany, were concealed in trailers that traveled through Bulgaria to Greece before being loaded onto yachts headed for Israel. The police reported seizing approximately 130 kilograms of ecstasy, ketamine, and cannabis. The gang's illegal profits are estimated at around 2.5 million euros (2.76 million dollars).
