Bassil Tours Jezzine: We Must Collaborate to Preserve Our Options

The head of the "National Free Movement" party, MP Gebran Bassil, inaugurated the restoration works in the commercial market of the city of Jezzine. In his speech, he noted that “today's project is the beginning of a journey and it is a comprehensive project. What we are doing is developing and marketing, as Jezzine deserves it and has all the elements to be a tourist attraction.”

Bassil emphasized that “our strength lies in our openness without losing our identity. We maintain our personality, dignity, culture, and way of thinking while accepting others. This is the role of Jezzine and its real strength.” He stated: “Jezzine is a true connecting point and a hub for the south and Mount Lebanon. It is a shame not to take on its role, and this is the meaning of steadfastness. What does it mean to win a war with a gun if we do not secure our livelihood?” He added, “The first point for Jezzine is to be a connecting hub, and the second point is that we are a community that believes in inclusion rather than isolation and division.”

Bassil continued: “What is important is that we have entered a series of stages, and I am sharing with you an experience of how to be exemplary in the context of development,” saying, “We went to work on a street in Zahle, and they got upset and didn’t do it.” This competition is “necessary for our development, not to halt another's project, and this destructive mentality is what has stopped the development in the state and institutions.”

MP Gebran Bassil began his tour in the city of Jezzine by meeting former MP Ibrahim Azar at his home, in the presence of former MP Amal Abu Zeid and former MP Selim Khoury. The party leader expressed his joy for this visit and its significance, considering that “we are facing a huge challenge, and to preserve our options we must cooperate,” confirming that “Jezzine will be a major attraction center, and with former MP Abu Zeid and the head of the union, Khalil Harfouch, we hope to cooperate for the people’s benefit.”

For his part, Azar welcomed MP Bassil, considering that “this house is open to everyone, as it was open to His Excellency President Michel Aoun in 2009.”
