At least 55 people have died due to landslides on Monday following heavy rainfall in the Gova area of southern Ethiopia, according to local authorities, who added that rescue operations are ongoing. Dgmawi Zerihun, an official in the Gova administrative region, stated in a report from the area where the disaster occurred: "More than 55 bodies have been found following the landslides caused by heavy rains on Monday morning, and the death toll may rise." The Gova administrative region is located approximately 450 kilometers from the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, and is about a 10-hour drive away.
