Greek coastguards announced on Tuesday the rescue of 75 migrants in an area that witnessed one of the worst shipwreck incidents involving migrants in the Mediterranean last year. These individuals were aboard a sailboat southwest of the coastal city of Pylos and will be transferred to the port of Kalamata, according to the coastguards, who did not mention their nationalities or the port from which they departed. In June 2023, a dilapidated fishing vessel overloaded sank after departing from the coastal city of Tobruk in eastern Libya, with more than 750 people on board, southwest of Pylos. Over 600 people perished that day, with 104 survivors. Dozens of survivors filed a criminal complaint against the Greek coastguards, claiming that they took hours to respond despite warnings from the European border monitoring agency "Frontex" and the NGO "Alarm Phone."
