Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has decided not to attend the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games next Sunday, in protest against the loss of a bronze medal by a gymnast from his country. Romanian gymnast Ana Parvușo finished third in the women's floor exercise final on Monday; however, she dropped to fourth place after the U.S. team's appeal regarding the score received by American gymnast Jordan Chiles was upheld, elevating Chiles from fifth to third, resulting in her winning the bronze medal.
This situation sparked Ciolacu's discontent, and he wrote on his Facebook account: "Depriving a medal obtained through honest work because of an appeal that neither coaches nor the best gymnasts understand is entirely unacceptable." He added, "I do not want to argue with anyone today; I just want to protest against the obvious injustice faced by the Romanians, who have proven their full worth."
So far, Romania has won seven medals at the Paris Olympics, comprising three golds, three silvers, and one bronze.
