The United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding with the Municipality of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip as part of "Operation Gallant Knight 3" to repair water lines and conduct emergency maintenance of water networks in various areas of the city. This memorandum is part of the UAE's efforts to find urgent humanitarian solutions for the Khan Younis Municipality and to fund the resumption of water wells and storage tanks in the city after many were damaged. The main water network damage is estimated to be around 70%, alongside the complete destruction of 25 wells and partial damage to 12 wells, exacerbating the water crisis in the city in recent months and hindering displaced residents from accessing water, as reported by the Emirates News Agency.
The agency noted that this memorandum contributes to repairing water pumps in the city, providing necessary materials for extending external water networks, purchasing water tanks for central filling points, as well as operational materials such as diesel and gas, and maintaining water pumps to supply water to areas populated by displaced residents to avoid health disasters and improve the environmental situation, while providing services to citizens.
The agency emphasized that the UAE is working to alleviate the burdens on the Khan Younis Municipality following damage to the city's water networks and the municipality's inability to deliver water to all areas due to the destruction and ground invasion of the city, which inhibits its capacity to provide water amid a significant increase in the number of displaced people, which has reached nearly 900,000.
It is worth mentioning that the UAE provides humanitarian aid and water for displaced families in various areas of the Strip as part of "Operation Gallant Knight 3," contributing daily to providing water to thousands of displaced residents to alleviate the suffering of the population amid the catastrophic conditions in the Gaza Strip.
