Electric Wire Theft Gang in the Custody of Security Forces

The following announcement was issued by the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division: After the increase in electric cable thefts from the public network, and as a result of field monitoring carried out by the Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces, a gang was monitored engaging in the theft of cables from electricity poles and copper pipes from electrical rooms in the town of Bsous and surrounding areas. Following this, and as a result of extensive investigations and inquiries, the branch was able to identify their identities, including: K. K. (born in 2003, Syrian), M. S. (born in 2003, Syrian), A. K. (born in 2004, Syrian). Orders were given to patrols of the branch to locate and arrest them in coordination with the judiciary.

On June 4, 2023, after careful surveillance, one of the branch's patrols was able to arrest them inside a scrap yard in the city of Aley while they were attempting to sell a quantity of stolen electric wires. The stolen wires were seized along with tools used in the theft operations. During the investigation, they confessed to committing more than 40 electric wire thefts in the areas of Bsous, Aley, and Bekaa, stating that they sold the stolen goods in "scrap yards" in several regions. Legal measures were taken against them, and they, along with the seized items, were deposited with the relevant authority, based on the instructions of the competent judiciary. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other involved individuals.
