The National Liberal Calls for Electoral Sessions to Elect a President Through Voting

The political body of the "Free National Current" believes that the last session to elect the President of the Republic clarified a clear equation that calls for continued invitations to electoral sessions to elect a president through voting. Alternatively, the supporting team for candidate Suleiman Frangieh may acknowledge that the path is blocked, thus leading parliamentary forces to a new phase to produce a president through consensus on the name and the main lines of the covenant's program and ways to ensure its success.

After its regular meeting chaired by MP Gebran Bassil, the political body held the caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his supporting political team accountable for persistently violating the balances of the national covenant and for clear violations of the constitution "due to insisting on holding Cabinet sessions that undermine covenantal partnership, exceed the limits of caretaker work, and destroy what remains of the state's institutional structure."

The body also noted the "audacity of the caretaker government to issue more than 627 decrees, most of which are neither urgent nor even necessary."

It called for the publication of the preliminary report issued by "Alvarez" and "Marshall" regarding the forensic audit of the accounts of the Bank of Lebanon, highlighting the delay of eight months in issuing the report and raising questions about what the content of this report might have undergone.

The body saw that publishing the report is a right of the Lebanese people guaranteed by the constitution and laws, foremost among them the law on the right to access information.
