Outing Turns into Tragedy: Yacht Sinks in the Nile

A tourist yacht sank in the waters of the Nile between the districts of Qasr al-Nil and Old Cairo, with 14 passengers on board, consisting of Egyptians and Saudis. Details of the incident revealed that the Old Cairo Police Station received a notification from security services at Qasr al-Eini Hospital regarding the arrival of injured individuals and fatalities resulting from the yacht sinking in the Nile near the fountain and Sofitel hotel, within the jurisdiction of Qasr al-Nil.

It was determined that an Egyptian family was hosting their Saudi relatives, and they went out for a ride on the Nile on a tourist yacht, which ultimately capsized. This resulted in four Saudi nationals and five Egyptians suffering from asphyxiation, although their health conditions have since improved. Additionally, two Egyptians were confirmed dead, and search efforts are ongoing for three individuals reported missing in the water.

Initial investigations revealed that the yacht had expired licensing, was small in size, and could only carry four people. Furthermore, the driver had no permits to operate in that area. The initial findings also indicated that the small yacht lost its balance, causing the front end to fall into the Nile, which led to it filling with water and sinking.
