The voting process began today, Sunday, at the general conference of the Progressive Socialist Party, which is dedicated to electing a new party president and leadership council, following the resignation of the party's president, Walid Jumblatt. Walid Jumblatt cast his vote at the party's general conference in Ain Zahalta. Additionally, MP Taymour Jumblatt also cast his vote.
In this context, the party's vice president, Drid Yaghi, summarized the significance of this electoral event as a democratic gateway "that we believe in to continue this journey, and we will carry the torch that each one of us has held over the years, which has cost us many martyrs, fatigue, and suffering to achieve victory." He pointed out that "when we truly and definitively believe in our party, struggle must be the duty to complete the construction plan for a future that protects humanity and defends the oppressed, deprived, and tortured."
In an interview with the "Anbaa" electronic newspaper, Yaghi indicated that he believes in development and the importance of power rotation, especially since there is good leadership in this party and a solid base with a large and broad audience of loyal and honorable activists who have gone through the toughest stages. He added: "While we are transitioning to a phase of youth leadership, we remain responsible for assisting each of them who is committed to this thought and believes in it."
