Government Study Reveals Surprise About the Algerian Coastline

A study conducted by the Ministry of Environment and the National Institute for Mapping and Remote Sensing in Algeria, under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense, stated that the length of the Algerian coastline is estimated to be 2,148 km, not 1,622 km. Environment and Renewable Energies Minister, Fazia Dahleb, announced that the study carried out by her ministry to determine the length of the Algerian coastline revealed that the coastal strip has "moved from 1,622 km to 2,148 km."

The minister highlighted during a press conference on the occasion of World Oceans Day that "a thorough and precise study on the length of the Algerian coastline showed that the national coastline is estimated at 2,148 km, not 1,622 km." She added, "Highly advanced expertise was used to measure the coastal strip of Algeria accurately, and it turned out to be much larger than the previous figure we had," noting that "the importance of this coastal strip drives us to protect it even more."

In this context, Minister Dahleb mentioned that "the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energies has worked for 5 years to obtain funding from the Green Climate Fund to develop the national adaptation plan for climate change," indicating that "the national adaptation plan for climate change will enhance the country's resilience to the negative effects of climate change."
