A court in London listened on Monday to the testimony of one of the "victims of sexual assaults" allegedly committed by actor Kevin Spacey, recounting how the actor tried to "lure him." The court viewed an interview recorded by the police with the first person who accused Spacey of assault. The man stated, "The actor committed repeated sexual abuses against me, totaling 12 incidents over about four years at the beginning of the millennium." He added in the interview, "He was trying to lure me almost from the start." The man described Spacey as "deceitful, treacherous, and difficult-tempered."
While testifying in court behind a screen, the man expressed feelings of shock, embarrassment, and shame regarding what happened to him. Spacey’s lawyer questioned the man about why he kept a "warm and nice" message sent to him by the actor before a charity event in which the man participated and about a "close" photo he published of himself with Spacey on social media. The witness responded, "It's just an ordinary picture, two men standing next to each other." When asked why he only reported to the police last year, he replied that it was "the right time."
The trial is set to continue for about four weeks. Spacey is being tried at Southwark Crown Court in London for 12 counts of sexual assault against four men, who were in their twenties and thirties at the time. These alleged assaults reportedly occurred between 2001 and 2013. Spacey has denied all charges against him. His lawyer, Patrick Gibbs, noted last week at the trial's start that the jury would hear some "damned lies."
