The Arab League, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Population Fund, and UN Women, has launched the "Protect Her" campaign on all social media platforms to raise awareness about the dangers of violence against women and girls in refugee situations in the Arab region. This was announced in a statement issued today, Thursday, by the Arab League, in conjunction with World Refugee Day, which is observed on June 20 each year.
The statement elaborated that the campaign is part of implementing the "Arab Strategy for Prevention and Response to All Forms of Violence in Refugee Situations, especially sexual violence against women and girls," which was adopted by the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level during its 155th session in 2021, to enhance the protection of women and girls.
It was noted in the statement that women and girls constitute 51% of refugees who need support and assistance in the Arab region, emphasizing that the "Protect Her" campaign is an opportunity to renew the collective commitment and shared responsibility to translate compassion into actions that empower them, and to unify efforts to ensure they receive protection and all necessary services, including health, legal, and psychological support.
The Arab League called in its statement for everyone to work together in solidarity for refugee women and girls, as they are in urgent need of support more than ever.
