America, Japan, and South Korea Condemn North Korean Missile Launch

The United States, South Korea, and Japan, in a joint statement, deemed North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile as a violation of multiple United Nations resolutions and a threat to peace and stability in the region. The joint statement read, "This constitutes a clear and flagrant violation of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions and a serious threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and beyond." The countries urged North Korea to "cease its provocative and unlawful actions and return to dialogue swiftly." Japan noted that the missile launched from off the coast of North Korea flew for 74 minutes, reached an altitude of 6,000 kilometers, and traveled 1,000 kilometers, potentially marking the longest flight time for a missile fired by North Korea. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, and South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin met on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in Jakarta, Indonesia.
