Egyptian authorities are intensifying their efforts to apprehend a Sudanese national who shot and killed a Sudanese woman in front of bystanders in an area of Giza in southern Egypt before fleeing the scene. The Egyptian authorities received a report regarding the murder of the Sudanese woman due to gunfire from a Sudanese individual in front of the refugee commission in 6th October City, who then fled the location.
Security personnel arrived at the incident site, where it was revealed that a woman in her fifties was killed by a gunshot wound. Investigations indicated that a dispute occurred between the woman and a man of the same nationality in front of the commission, escalating into a heated argument and physical confrontation. Suddenly, the Sudanese man drew a firearm from his clothing and shot the woman, killing her before fleeing.
The public prosecutor has instructed security agencies to promptly conduct investigations and interview witnesses to determine the circumstances of the incident and swiftly apprehend the perpetrator. The refugee commission has disclosed that the number of Sudanese nationals is the highest in Egypt, followed by Syrians, with smaller numbers from South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Yemen, Somalia, and Iraq. The clashes that erupted in Sudan in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and rapid support forces forced millions of Sudanese to flee to Egypt and other neighboring countries.
