The great sacrifice is for all of us to return to our roots and constants, the most important of which we must all hold onto is love for the homeland. This is what the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, said during a ceremony held in the Dhour El Choueir area. He added, "We have all agreed that Lebanon is a final homeland for us, linked by sincere and unique relations with its Arab surroundings. I cannot imagine Lebanon without its vast Arab depth, nor can I envision it without the message of coexistence that distinguishes it, serving as an example for all societies and countries with diversity and multiplicity."
During the ceremony, which was attended by a crowd of politicians, religious leaders, ministers, and deputies, the Mufti stated, "My honor comes when you gather in such a blessed assembly to collaborate and support each other to overcome our crises and our reality in Lebanon, thinking about the most effective means to surpass this insoluble national crisis." He concluded his remarks by saying, "We must not interfere in the affairs of others; our Arab brothers and friends are working hard through repeated meetings of the quintet committee to assist us in getting out of our predicament. They do not interfere in electing this or that, as this issue is our responsibility and specifically that of the parliament."
The Mufti noted, "We previously met with Sunni Muslim deputies in Dar Al-Fatwa, and we affirmed to them their responsibility, to govern their consciences, and to work with their colleagues to choose a president for the republic as soon as possible who is best and most suitable for Lebanon and the Lebanese. It is unfortunate that after 12 sessions to elect a president, we see that the division among parliamentary blocs remains vertical even if the sessions have multiplied, and without any understanding, concession, or dialogue, we will not reach any result, and the presidential vacuum will prolong. There must be a solution; external Arab and friendly assistance helps, but the solution lies within our parliament. I urge political forces to relinquish their self-interests for the sake of Lebanon, the country, and its constitutional institutions, as the solution can only be through mutual concessions among all."
