The Turkish newspaper "Daily Sabah" revealed in a report published today the expected date and location for the meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar Assad. According to a source cited in the report, it was mentioned that:
- The first meeting between Erdogan and Assad is anticipated to be held in the Russian capital, Moscow.
- The summit is likely to take place during the upcoming month of August.
- Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to act as a mediator in the summit between the two leaders.
- It is currently unknown whether Iran or other parties will be invited to participate in the anticipated summit in Moscow.
- Erdogan had previously stated that he is prepared to meet Syrian President Bashar Assad either in Turkey or in a third country.
- The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, was previously recommended for a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar Assad.
It is worth noting that Erdogan had exclaimed on July 11 that he had tasked Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan with organizing a meeting with President Bashar Assad, which may take place in a third country. For his part, Assad indicated during a press interview after casting his vote in the earlier Syrian legislative elections that he is prepared to meet his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, provided that the meeting serves the interest of the country.
