The Metropolitan of Beirut and its dependencies for the Greek Orthodox, Bishop Elias Audi, officiated the Divine Liturgy at St. George's Cathedral in Beirut. After the Gospel reading, he delivered a sermon in which he stated: "The leaders of this country are akin to the Pharisees; they do not want the salvation of the country and its people, and they do not budge from the path of those who wish to work for reform, end crises, and establish a state of institutions free of corruption, favoritism, and exploitation. A state where the military is unified, its borders are clear, and its resources are for the public good, not for personal gain." He added: "They focus on the vacancy of a position and occupy the land and everything in it to fill it while forgetting that the problem lies in the vacancy of the first position, that is, the absence of the head, and that all positions will be filled and the wheel of the state will turn upon electing a president and forming a government that carries out the necessary reforms. It is time to reintroduce concepts into the behavior of politicians such as respect for the constitution, application of laws, integrity, transparency, honesty, fulfilling duties, and accountability. These concepts have been lost but are essential for the regularity of public life."
