Basil: "Salameh Will Not Sit Calmly"

Basil:

The president of the "Free Patriotic Movement," Deputy Gibran Basil, affirmed the movement's stance regarding the presidency, stating that "neither the army leadership, nor the central bank governorship, nor the entire government will entice us, except for the project of building the state; thus, every stubbornness is met with stubbornness and every flexibility with flexibility." During a dinner for the Metn district committee, Basil said, "If agreement is not reached, each team will head to the parliament to elect a president in consecutive sessions," considering that in the event of consecutive sessions without obtaining 65 votes, the Shiite duo can no longer be held responsible for the disruption.

He announced, "We are seriously working with others on the projects of expanded administrative and financial decentralization and the credit fund," adding, "Give us in advance expanded credit decentralization and a reform program, and take from us the greatest sacrifice for six years." Regarding the governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Basil believes it would have been better to dismiss Governor Riad Salameh and hold him accountable and imprison him at the end of his term, indicating, "Don't forget that they tried to extend his term, and we were among the biggest contributors to preventing that, and this is a form of accountability, but it is not enough." He considers that "Salameh will not sit calmly and will attempt to sabotage the dollar with the tools at his disposal to demonstrate how the lira fares after him."

He confirmed his rejection of continuing the same policy through a new governor or through deputy governors, pointing out that "real stability is respecting laws, transparency, preventing theft, corruption, and waste, and adhering to market principles and the law of supply and demand, resorting to natural stability, not fake." He sees the solution as appointing a person known for their competence and humanity through judicial or administrative means, considering that "political consensus on the appropriate individual is a better cover and more important than any unconstitutional measures by the government." Alternatively, "the first deputy governor can assume full powers along with the central council with its limited powers."
