Miqati After Meeting with Deputy Governors: We Will Collaborate Together

The media office of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati announced that a meeting was held with the deputy governors of the Banque du Liban: Wassim Mansouri, Bashir Yaqdan, Selim Shahin, and Alexander Muradian. During the meeting, the discussions focused on the previous two meetings held to address the phase following the end of the term of Banque du Liban Governor Riad Salameh.

The Prime Minister stated that the current phase requires everyone's cooperation to maintain relative financial and monetary stability and to prevent it from being jeopardized. He emphasized that there is a national responsibility resting on all of us if a new governor for the central bank is not appointed.

He stressed that "the concerns expressed by the deputy governors in the statement they issued a few days ago are legitimate, and the plan formulated by them is consistent with the government's plan. The government will cooperate with the Parliament to enact the necessary legislation for the proper functioning of institutions during this critical phase in Lebanon's history, according to the provisions set forth in the Law of Money and Credit."

The deputy governors noted in their statement that they "are fulfilling their national and legal responsibilities." They urged everyone to ensure that the legal and executive requirements are met to maintain the minimum level of stability that should not be compromised today, appreciating "the responsiveness of political forces to secure the government, parliamentary, and legal requirements."
