Hamas stated on Thursday that the Israeli Knesset's decision to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state is null and issued by an illegitimate authority. The movement clarified in a statement that "the Knesset's decision to deny the establishment of a Palestinian state is invalid and originates from an occupying entity that has no legitimacy on Palestinian land."
The statement added that the decision is "a confirmation of the unwavering policy that denies the rights of our Palestinian people and their right, guaranteed by international law, to self-determination like other nations." It continued: "Our Palestinian people will continue their resistance and legitimate struggle for their existence against the fascist extermination war waged by the terrorist government against them, and will reclaim their right to establish their independent state. They will persist in thwarting all plans of displacement and erasure of Palestinian national identity."
Hamas emphasized that "this decision is a challenge to the international community and an affront to the United Nations General Assembly's resolution that granted Palestine full membership, necessitating serious international action to halt these decisions and measures that would enable the Palestinian people to achieve all their rights." The Knesset voted on Thursday with a significant majority in favor of a resolution rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state, according to the "Times of Israel" newspaper.
