The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Fox broadcasting network announced that the Emmy Awards ceremony has been postponed to January 15, due to the Hollywood writers and actors strike stemming from disputes with major studios over working conditions. The prestigious television awards were originally scheduled to air on Fox on September 18. The nominees for the top television awards were announced in July, just before the writers' and actors' strike was declared.
Last month, Hollywood actors joined striking film and television writers who had been on strike since May, following unsuccessful negotiations between the American Writers Guild and the major production studios. This is the first time both unions have struck since 1960, resulting in the disruption of television and film production, affecting the global entertainment industry.
The drama series "Succession" and the video game adaptation "The Last of Us," produced by HBO, lead the Emmy nominations. Other nominees include "Better Call Saul," "Yellowjackets," and "The Crown," all of which have been nominated in previous editions. The Emmy Awards ceremony will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater at the Los Angeles Live entertainment complex on January 15.
