Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah confirmed that the international community is starting to understand the scale of the disaster occurring in Gaza, noting the increasing momentum towards a ceasefire. During a press conference for the "Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee" on the sidelines of a UN Security Council session in New York, Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated, "The calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza are gaining traction in the international community, which is beginning to comprehend the magnitude of the disaster," pointing out that the Security Council's resolution on the matter has not been fully implemented.
He added, "The situation in the Gaza Strip is unbearable, and the aid coming in is not sufficient. There is a need for a permanent ceasefire, and this is what we are working towards," noting the opportunity to extend the "insufficient" truce through the efforts of Egypt and Qatar. The Saudi Foreign Minister emphasized the rejection of the displacement and blockade of the Palestinian people and the necessity of finding a solution on their land, stating, "We do not encourage Palestinians to leave their land, and we will not work with any party that has this agenda."
In a related context, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, during a Security Council session on Gaza, stated that it is time for international recognition of the State of Palestine, saying, "Peace for us is a strategic option, and Israel's response to our efforts brings us closer to a solution," adding, "We have proposed many peace initiatives. Where are Israel's initiatives for peace?"
Additionally, the Saudi Foreign Minister attended a special meeting on the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine, organized by the UN General Secretariat at its headquarters in New York, focusing on developments in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings, and the importance of protecting innocents in Gaza. The meeting also discussed ways the international community can support the Palestinian people in obtaining all their rights, including self-determination and the right to establish an independent and sovereign state in accordance with relevant international resolutions.
