The Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" has reported that Egyptian actor Michael Iskander will star in the Israeli series "Beit David," which will soon be available on an American digital platform. The newspaper stated that Iskander will play the role of Prophet David, alongside several Arab Israeli actors, including Ali Suleiman and Ashraf Barhom, who will portray King Saul and Doeg, respectively. Yali Topol Margalit, the granddaughter of Hayim Topol, will also star in the series as Merav, one of Saul's daughters.
Egyptian actor Michael Iskander will take on the role of King David in the series produced by Amazon. The role of Achinoam, one of David's wives, will be played by Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer. Actor Stephen Lang will portray Prophet Samuel, and British bodybuilder/actor Martin Ford will play "Goliath." The cast also includes Yali Topol Margalit ("The Tattooist of Auschwitz"), the granddaughter of late actor Hayim Topol, who will play Mariv, and British actress Indy Lewis as Michal, both daughters of Saul.
Also appearing in the series is American-Israeli actor Oded Fehr, who will play Saul's advisor Abner, while actor Eitan Kaveh will portray Jonathan, and Arab Israeli actor Ashraf Barhom will play Doeg Redman.
The series, which began production in Greece, aims to narrate the story of David's rise amid Saul's decline, who falls victim to his pride. The Hebrew newspaper pointed out that the inclusion of the Egyptian actor in the Israeli series may provoke many, given that he is an actor born in Egypt who will portray one of the most significant leaders in Jewish history. It is worth noting that a few years ago, there was a stir when reports emerged that Israeli Gal Gadot would play Cleopatra in a film.
The series is produced by Wonder, a company specializing in Christian content, partially owned by American director Dallas Jenkins, who is responsible for the television series "The Chosen," which depicts the life of Christ.
